3 of 2006: Weight loss

Mark and I had a great time in Sun City, where I spoke at the International Mango Symposium. Can you believe they had people from all over the world (Cuba, Argentina, USA, UK, Brazil, Malaysia, Australia, Israel etc) and that they found enough material to have people speaking about mangoes for 5 days? My talk there has been recorded and if the light and sound work out will be on Digimag#7.

My daughter Melissa and Natural Way Consultant and microbiologist , Noelene have started running a support group here in the Western Cape so for those of you needing the support and wanting to meet like minded people give them a ring below

WEIGHT LOSS and coconut oil

In order to lose fat and excess weight permanently and healthfully, you need to do it slowly. The best way to lose weight is to make small adjustments in the types of food you eat, and increase your activity level. Stop worrying about counting calories or denying yourself. It can be done!!

Quick weight loss diets are often counter-productive as they produce the yo-you effect. One is often treating the symptoms and not the causes. The main cause, part from over-eating and minimal active , is metabolism. Overweight people have a slow basal metabolic rate (BMR). The best way to rev up your BMR is to exercise and eat the right foods.

One food that can increase your BMR even more than protein, is cold pressed virgin coconut oil. This is because coconut oil contains medium chain fatty acids (MCFA). These MCFA shifts the body’s metabolism into a higher gear, so to speak, so that more calories are burned. MSFA are easily absorbed, rapidly burned and used as energy for metabolism, thus increasing metabolic activity, and even burning the long chain fatty acids (LCFA), which we find in fast foods and refined oils. These LCFA found in refined, polyunsaturated oils depress thyroid activity – the gland that controls metabolism.

SATIATION: VITAL TO WEIGHT LOSS

When coconut oil is consistently used (along with other healthy fats), vital nourishment is provided to every cell in your body; nourishment that supports optimal function to the nerves, brain, hormones, immune system, and metabolism. But beyond this, one triggers a powerful mechanism that is vital to success in permanent weight loss: SATIATION.

How does your body register this? When coconut (and other healthy fats, such as organic nuts, seeds, avocado etc) are eaten, the body actually produces a hormone in the stomach and small intestine that signals that enough has been eaten. When you feel satiated, cravings and the persistent hunger experienced on most diets are banished. Satiation is a truly revolutionary weight loss concept. By feeding the body the healthy fats it needs, a feeling of hunger, self-denial and the urge to overeat empty calories from foods such as pizzas, sodas and ice cream, will disappear.

SPECIAL WEIGHT LOSS TIP

Some people have found the following helps them; twenty minutes before each meal take some coconut oil. By mealtime, coconut’s satiation effect will be in full force, so that you will not feel hungry. You may feel full before finishing the meal, and will lose the desire to snack afterwards. The easiest way to take coconut oil is to make a Coconut Oil Infusion. Place 1 to 2 tablespoons of softened Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) into a mug and add hot water (or hot herbal tea), allowing the oil to melt before drinking. Take 3 times per day, before each meal. Use the following formula to determine the amount.

Body weight

40 – 60 kg: 1 Tbsp. VCO (total of 3 TBS’s per day)

60 – 80 kg: 1.5 Tbsp. VCO (total of 4.5 TBS’s per day)

80+ kg:  2 Tbsp. VCO (total of 6 TBS’s per day)

To keep Millbrook Virgin Coconut Oil soft during the winter months, put it on top of the refrigerator, stove or a warm cupboard.

Millbrook Superior Blend 3:6:9 also contains Virgin Coconut Oil

Good news

Some interesting stuff on feeding your pets from Hanlie

Dear Mary-Ann

Just want to share with you how Natural Nutrition helped my two German Shepards.

Mishke and Wolfgang (brother and sister and from the same litter) were both diagnosed with hip displasia  Wolfgang got it in both hips - very bad.  At the age of 5, he was so bad we thought we have to put him down.  He did not want to walk anymore - to painful (even with painkillers).  They sleep in the house at night and we had to help him (by supporting his hips) to get him up the stairs.  Eating became a huge problem - although they were on the best Vet foods available and I had to use gravy's and sauces to 'bribe' them to eat.

At this stage, me and my husband changed to the Natural Way and had amazing results.  One night Wolfgang was so bad and that had both of us in a state - thought that the time had come to put him to sleep.  We got on the Internet and spent time on it till 3 in the morning.  We came across a book:  Natural Nutrition for Dogs and Cats - the ultimate diet by Kymythy R. Schultze.  First thing that morning - I were in Exclusive Books and got hold of the book.

We changed their diet to a species orientated diet and had immediate results.  3 weeks later - they were running around like puppies and have not had one painkiller ever since - not even a visit to the vet!!

(Their diet consists of raw meat, chicken and fish (they are carnivores) with carrots, celery, potato, sweet potato, butternut, sprouts, baby marrows, gem squash, sweet peppers, eggs, olive- or flaxseed oil, alfalfa, frame essentials and for snacks they get nuts and fruit like apples and grapes - everything raw, as they would have it in nature)

Previous diet was from Olympics (simply refused to eat that) to Veg Choice (bad smelling 'droppings') to Montego Classic (developed terrible sores and bad skin conditions and bad breath and refuse to eat even with gravy).

Just shows you what a 'species orientated diet' can do!!

Regards,

Hanlie Schoeman

Thought for the week
