Well Mark and I are having so much fun here in California; I am not looking forward to leaving on Sunday, although I am looking forward to being in Florida for the next month or so. Then of course we are missing our grandchildren so much and look forward to seeing Stephen, Dylan and Faith when we go back to South Africa end of June. Faith is walking (at 9 months – so she is driving her parents nuts!), Dylan is speaking a whole lot of new big words and their mother, our daughter Melissa is expecting baby number 3 a little girl towards the end of July/Mid August. Stephen is growing into a very active young man and will be 6 in November.

We will be doing talks back in South Africa in July in Johannesburg and Cape Town, but because of the new baby, I will be spending most of the time with our family. Contact info@mary-anns.com if you need to know where the talks are or check out www.mary-anns.com

September should see us back in the UK and then after that back here in the USA.

One of the fun things we did was with Alice Murayadin , a natural wayer, my hairdresser here and a great friend. Alice took us to a Korean spa where we were rubbed down with a special cloth which must have removed every possible dead skin cell in every nook and cranny and then we had the most wonderful massage, during which they packed grated cucumber on our faces. 2 hours later we emerged with the shiniest new skin, totally invigorated and determined to go back at least every 3 months. We have cycled down to the beach in Dana Point, walked for hours and raced around like mad things to talks in the LA traffic.

The thing that blows us away is how safe it is here, how well behaved motorists are (I know the locals don’t think so but they should try driving on our roads back in SA!)

We have been hectic with talks sometimes doing 6 or 7 in a week, but I must say eating healthy, exercise and the ever handy barley grass juice, BarleyLife! I have increased our intake to 2 tsp between 2-3 times a day, which has been amazing.

If you want to be meet some of the most amazing people we have met here in the US and get motivated  by their testimonies

with some of the latest info on health and be inspired to make some seriously delicious meals, then go to www.mary-anns.com and subscribe to our monthly Digital magazine. So many people have written to us to tell us how the DVDs keep them on track and help them understand so much more about living a healthy lifestyle.

DVD info

Last month we interviewed a young couple on the beach in San Clemente, Southern California and spoke to them about their health and their hobby; surfing

In addition, for the first time I combined the cookery section with a talk. Talk about multitasking! I had to feed 25 people and at the same time help them understand the basic principles of the Natural Way. You will be able to use the recipes to entertain your guests or just have a great meal with your family.

Next month we interview a mother in Los Angeles and cook in her kitchen with some friends (who pitch in and help) and we discuss the effect of Caffeine and talk on some health information concerning chocolate

Interesting info and success stories

It was great meeting up with you last time you were here.

I realised that I left out the letter about our testimony so I wanted to update you on our progress.  Our health continues to improve in leaps and bounds.

It is such a relief to see the curse going into reverse.  Whereas before I seemed to be experiencing PMT for 3 weeks due to the early onset of the menopause now I am beginning to experience 2 day light periods instead 5 day horrible painful heavy ones.  Amazing to think people go on the pill to try and achieve these sort of results.  I no longer get the hot flushes and at last am beginning to have the energy I need for a family with 5 children, 3 5 and under.

A month ago I sold my car so that I could support the Impact School of Ministry more financially.  Not only do I have more money but I'm no longer a glorified taxi service for my teenage children and both they and I get more exercise which is increasing my energy levels even more.

My mood swings are no longer nearly so violent because I'm treating my hormones kindly with all that lovely fruit.  I have swapped my cigarette habit for an innocent fruit smoothie habit, pineapple, coconut and banana are my favourite and Friday's breakfast consists of a whole litre carton.  My concentration is so much better, my head is much clearer.

John had a hip replacement in November and has now got himself a bike which he hasn't had in ten years.

David continues to improve, we cut the gluten out as you recommended, as you know when he was born he did not breath for 11 minutes and was left with Ataxia which meant he was a late walker and suffered with coordination problems, basically he looked really clumsy.  We noticed the other day that he has begun to swing his arms which he never did before, they used to held tight under his armpits. Also he has begun jumping which he has never done before so we are really pleased.

As people notice our healthier lifestyle they have begun to ask questions which is exciting.  I realise that one of my dreams used to be to become a doctor, however, this is so much better since most of the medical profession are only able to recommend drug therapy and have been corrupted by the pharmaceutical companies.  I recently spoke to a lady who had entered the menopause 7 years ago and who had just gone onto hormone replacement therapy very reluctantly.  She explained how that her periods were so heavy that she had to put a bath towel between her legs and at times would pass out and be rushed to hospital because the blood loss was so severe - how frightening! She was also incredibly moody recently which she had never suffered with before being a fairly placid person. I mentioned the natural way book and she actually made a point of reminding us for it which is promising because I don't think she'll need encouraging to read it.

Thanks again

We look forward to seeing you soon

John and Jill (UK)

And an update from Consultant Ingrid Smith in South Africa, about her dog Pot;

Just to let you both know that Pot went for her first official check up following removal of her mast cell  tumour at the end of March and our vet wrote in her file '100% no recurrence'.

Needless to say my little dumpling eagerly takes her Garden Trio mixture with AIMEGA tablets each morning as Craig looks at us both and tells me 'mad dog, mad mother'!

 Will keep you updated.

Then some interesting news I picked up on this week

May 14, 2007 (KABC-TV) - The American Cancer Society says with the exception of skin cancer, breast cancer is the most common cancer among American women.

While we're all aware of the genetic component, scientists say there may be cancer causing chemicals we're not even aware of.

These chemicals are in shampoos, car exhaust, even in the foods we eat.

For the first time, scientists have compiled a list of 216 chemicals into a comprehensive online database. It's the result of a detailed analysis of hundreds of breast cancer studies.

"It's a great study. It takes a lot of effort to generate such a report," Dr. Shiuan Chen, of City of Hope Medical Center, said.

City of Hope breast cancer researchers say long term, most of the chemicals identified either disrupt cell function, mutate DNA or mimic estrogen which studies show promotes some types of breast cancer.

"A number of the chemicals mimic estrogen which has a negative effect on estrogen function," Dr. Chen said.

Some of the chemicals mentioned include acrylomide in fried food, benzene and PAH's in vehicle exhaust and 1,4 dioxane found in detergents, shampoos and soaps.

"It's just starting to become mainstream that what you put on your skin is just as important as what you eat," Lori MacGregor, of Lather, said.

MacGregor says fear of chemical additives and preservatives is why natural products like her company's have been so successful.

But most women know that escaping all the chemicals we're exposed to in daily life is nearly impossible.

"I think it's more up to society to be aware of what's in our society, but we're not as concerned somehow," Antoinette Perry, someone concerned about chemicals, said.

So what can we do as individuals, because these chemicals are everywhere in our environment? Breast cancer experts say we can diversify. Rotate what we eat, what we do and what we use.

"So for example you can switch the detergents that you use so that you won't be exposed to the same chemicals. Eat all different kinds of foods. Don't eat at the same places ... Diversify, go to different places," Dr. Chen said.

More information on the study

The database reveals that among the 216 compounds that cause breast tumors in animals:
73 have been present in consumer products or as contaminants in food
35 are air pollutants
25 have been associated with occupational exposures affecting more than 5,000 women a year
29 are produced in the United States in large amounts, often exceeding 1 million pounds per year.

Some of the most widespread chemicals are:

1,4-dioxane which can be found in shampoos, detergents and soaps
Acrylamide which can be found in fried foods
Benzene which can be found in air pollutants
Methylene chloride which is used in fabric cleaners, furniture polish, and many other consumer products

So what does all of this mean to me and what can I do?

Basically I would use only natural and or organic shampoos, detergents

and soaps. These are available worldwide in most stores. Read the labels and use natural glycerine soaps if you need to.

Read the chapter on skin in my books The Natural Way and Perfect Health and find out why you do not need to use soap.

I would also avoid using any cleaning materials that are not natural and organic and safe for human use. Again there are a variety of these available at most grocery stores in most countries.

Avoid fried foods, but if you do eat them at times, make sure you are taking in either drinking a full glass of wheat grass juice daily  or like me 2-3 tsp of dried barley grass juice (BarleyLife – email any of the consultants on the website or contact Melissa on info@mary-anns.com for details to order at the wholesale price). The nutritional profile in barley juice is 2-3 times more nutritious than wheat grass juice and tastes a lot nicer and is easier t obtain for busy people in the spray dried form.

The leaves of sprouted barley grass contain Anti-oxidants such as beta carotene, vitamin C and another isolated at the University of California in 1991, 2’-0-Glycosylisovitexin, are found in extremely high, but safe levels and these together with an enzyme called peroxides have been shown to be anti- carcinogenic and anti-mutagenic. Peroxides actually breaks down and neutralizes Try-P1 and P2 a carcinogen in grilled meat and fish and 3-4benzypyrene, another carcinogen in tobacco.

Therefore people who smoke or eat cooked animal products would reduce their risk of cancer. In fact anyone with cancer or trying to avoid it would do well on BarleyLife.

The high levels of Chlorophyll in barley grass juices (higher than any other food I have analysed, are known to help neutralize heavy metals and other toxic substances
