What's up?
We just visited a farm in Robertson where they have dried the most spectacular pears, especially for us. I can honestly say that in my entire life I have never tasted dried fruit like this. They taste as if they have been dipped in caramel with a pear flavour. The secret is the slow drying time. The secret is a highly specialised oven drying at low temperatures and the type of pear. They are chewy and full of flavour and sweet. Yes, I prefer oven-drying as it is way more hygienic and the birds don’t drop their poops on the fruit, neither can the rats and mice walk around like they do on sun-dried fruit!
Then we have about 100kg of the most delicious sweet and chewy dried pineapple, the biggest problem is deciding which of these two you want to eat! My friend Autumn introduced me to Trader Joe’s pineapple in S California and I thought I had died and gone to heaven. Well Autumn, these pineapples are 100 times nicer, and I am not kidding. So I will have to send you a sample to see what you think! Here in South Africa these farmers can make as good as the Americans and better!

In the Southern hemisphere you are coming out of winter and everyone wants to shed the extra weight that sneaked on from too many carbs and fat and too little activity. We have battled in the Western Cape here to get out everyday as it feels as if it has been raining solidly for 6 months!
In the northern hemisphere summer is over and you be preparing your immune system to be in peak condition as you go into winter. You probably also want to clean out any of that holiday food that snuck into your diet, so this month is the time for detoxifying, cleaning out and repairing..

Hi, I’m not sure if this is the right e-mail address but I just wanted to say a very big thank you.
I have struggled with excess weight for as long as I can remember. I started to do the natural wayat the end of July this year. I had previously lost 2 stone 10 Ibs over the past couple of years but had been stuck for a while. When I read your book it was like a light turned on and I started to listen to my body. I had been waking up in the morning with headaches and my eczema was getting increasingly worse. It gave me a great deal of pain at times, something I have had all my life. I knew after reading your book that it was time to change. I started cutting out meat, diary and wheat from my diet and followed the basic principles. Since the end of July I have lost 1 stone and 7 Ibs. I feel so much better in myself. If I do eat something that isn’t great for me I really feel it the next day. My husband has also lost weight, so he is happy with the eating changes I have out into place at home. I’m not always perfect, but I know my body is much happier when I eat properly.
I have read a few books on health over the past 3 years and I know that God has taken me on a journey in understanding how to listen to my body and treat it with kindness. Your book culminated everything I had learned and also taught me so much more. I know that if I had received your book two years ago I would have struggled to get me head around it. So, I understand now that as the loving God that He is, he took my hand and guided me to this point.
As a women I have always put my health last on the list and still struggle to ensure I get enough exercise, but I keep pressing forwards and make changes along the way. Your book was easy to understand, yet very informative. So, I just wanted to say thank you so much
I’m going to re-read the book in January to start of my year and ensure that I keep focused on understanding what my body needs. I live a very busy life, with two businesses and being the chair of a non-profit organisation, as well as church commitments, life is never dull. I have so much more energy.

What’s in?
Cleaning out, detoxifying and doing your bi-annual repair work
It is that time of the year again when seasons change and it is the ideal time to allow your body some time to either repair or prepare for the changes. If you do not set aside this essential time for repair and cleansing you may find yourself battling through winter or lurching from infection and or flu to infection and flu.
Doing a clean-out at least twice a year (spring and Autumn or Fall), will prevent you falling prey to infections and disease and save you huge amounts of money as you find yourself like we have not having a medical bill due to ill health for close on 23 years.
How do you know you need to clean out or repair?
Your digestion has become sluggish
Your skin is not looking great
Your urine smells strong
You suffer from allergies or hay fever
You are not sleeping well and not waking up refreshed anymore
You feel out of sorts
You are carrying extra weight and or feel uncomfortable in your skin
You have developed hormonal problems
You keep getting colds of flu
You have excess mucous and or discharges from any part of your body
Your body odour is strong
Your mouth tastes stale when you wake up in the morning
You have bad breath (ask someone you know well to tell you)
Your head feels full of cotton wool or your brain has slowed down
You eyesight has deteriorated or you have itchy eyes
You have dry skin or cracked heels
Your nails are not in great condition – dry, splitting, ridges, breaking
So where do you start?
If the idea of doing something drastic puts you in a panic, then rather log onto www.mary-anns.com and then onto the 100 days to health program which will help you make very small regular changes with clear directions, with recipes and daily encouragement.
If you want to do something now or in the next week or two and give yourself a big push I recommend the following…
Day 1-3
Either
A complete fast consuming just pure clean water for 1-3 full days. It is ideal to have this as a time of rest and to spend sometime sunbathing and relaxing. You need to also spend time contemplating and praying as fasting is an awesome time to reassess your life and or help you make decisions about your future. A good time to start may be on a Friday and going into the weekend.
If you are unable to fast because you are uncomfortable about it or you are pregnant, breast feeding or on medication, then I suggest you do 1-3 days on;
Freshly extracted fruit and vegetable juices – up to 6 full glasses a day.
OR
Eat just one kind of fruit a day like apples or grapes
You may continue longer than 3 days either fasting or drinking juice or eating 1 kind of fruit, but make sure you are well informed as to what symptoms of healing are. You can read Perfect Health, Perfect Weight or Take Control for info on this, but the most information you will find is in our Natural Health and Nutrition course.
Another excellent book on fasting is by Dr Joel Fuhrman and is available from Amazon.
After the first 1-3 days do another 1-3 days on a strict raw food program
Breakfast
¼ to ½ cup of raw nuts or seeds like almonds or cashews or sunflower seeds, with any of the acid or sub acid fruits – see food combining chart at back of all my books

Mid morning
Eat up to 2 portions fresh fruit
Lunch
A large raw salad with any raw only vegetables or fruit
You can use a Tbsp olive oil and some organic herb salt if you like but may benefit faster from a detox perspective if you leave the oil and salt out.
If you prefer you can eat as much fresh fruit as you like
Midafternoon
1-2 fresh fruit or vegetables
Dinner
A large fresh salad – as much as you like as for lunch.
Next 1 -3 days
Same day time menu, just dinner changes
Include some neutral (see food chart) steamed vegetables with or with out extra virgin olive oil and herb salt. Asparagus and zucchini or baby marrows are my favourites here.
Next 1-3 days
Same day time menu, just adjustment to dinner
You may include 1 unprocessed starch like potato or sweet potato or brown rice or corn on cob or millet or quinoa in the evening or with lunch if you prefer.
You should aim at completing 7-21 days of healing or detox and during this time you should have none of the following;
Caffeine (coffee, tea – including green tea- chocolate, cola)
Artificial or refined sweeteners or diet drinks
Animal products including fish, eggs, cheese, meat, yoghurt
Some products to help you repair and clean out more efficiently
Herbal Fiberblend
A combination or herbs that helps to regulate bowel function whether your bowels are too slow or too efficient. HFB helps correct this as well as removes the 1-10 Kg of old fecal matter most people walk around with that contribute to the most common form of cancer; colorectal cancer.
HFB also helps to soften hard stools as in constipation or forms too soft stools as in diarrhoea
Herbal Release
A combination for herbs and plant extracts that help your lymphatic system function efficiently. This system forms part of your Immune system, feeds the cells and removes waste matter from them. If the lymphatic system is not working efficiently and clean
Para 90
A combination of plants and herbs that help get rid of parasites, which contribute or even cause anything from excess weight to cancer!
Composure
A combination of plants that help calm the body down. This helps with allergies and hay fever, or any similar detox symptoms and will help you sleep well and deal with stress without making you drowsy so you can drive and operate heavy machinery!
What's to eat?
Tomato salad
Sometimes I don’t feel like eating a whole salad and am in the mood for tomatoes, that’s when we’ll eat this.
Cut 1-½ cm slices of red, ripe juicy tomatoes
Place in rings on a serving platter
Optional top with slices of avocado
Drizzle with olive oil, sprinkle with Mary-Ann’s Organic Herb salt, freshly ground black pepper and garnish with lots of chopped basil/Arugula (rocket)/parsley or celery leaves. You may also like to add lemon juice or a dash or balsamic vinegar.
